Job Purpose
Reporting to the Operations Director, you will be responsible for day-to-day tasks, including identifying, diagnosing, and repairing complex problems in heavy equipment. This involves utilizing diagnostic tools and software, as well as interpreting technical manuals and blueprints to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment. You’ll collaborate closely with the client’s team and support staff to ensure customer needs are fully met.
Job Responsibilities:
Repair and maintain the operating condition of industrial production and processing machinery and equipment.
Perform routine maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, and cleaning of heavy equipment. Overhaul and repair major components, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
Modify or fabricate parts for heavy equipment, as needed, to ensure optimal performance and functionality, including on-site metal fabrication as needed.
Provide support to customer mechanics, as needed.
Supervise and train junior mechanics, guiding them on complex repairs and maintenance procedures.
Travel to customer job sites, Customer training and maintenance sites, and other locations to provide field service and respond to emergency calls for heavy equipment repairs.
Operate newly repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and inspections, often using maintenance management software.
Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.
Utilize advanced troubleshooting skills to isolate and resolve complex issues in heavy equipment, including electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
Work with internal teams, such as Product Development, Machine Development, and Field Applications Engineering teams, to integrate feedback into product improvements.
Recognize and report safety concerns promptly.
Constantly learn and improve personal skillsets.
Document equipment issues and repairs, such as hours, parts used, and travel.
Ensure all repairs and maintenance comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
Job Qualifications:
Must have 6+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, including supervisory experience.
High School Diploma/GED required, technical diploma or tradesperson certification is a plus.
Previous experience with drill rigs is a plus.
Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve complex issues.
Must have 6+ years of construction/jobsite experience.
Strong understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems in heavy machinery.
Extensive experience in troubleshooting and resolving complex issues with complete hydraulics, diesel engines, and electrical systems.
Ability to supervise and train junior mechanics, guiding them on complex repairs and maintenance procedures.
Experience with controls (encoders, CANBUS, linear transducers, PLC, etc), heavy equipment diagnostics (CAT, Cummins), as well as welding and fabrication.
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to diagnose and resolve complex issues efficiently.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for communicating with supervisors, team members, and clients.
Familiarity with maintenance management software systems for tracking and managing equipment repairs.
High level of professionalism, judgement, and strong work ethic.
Ability to work independently without constant direction.
This position requires 50% travel or more.
This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver’s license and provide proof that s/he has a valid driver’s license upon being hired.
